Register now for 2019 Summer Theater Camp!
For the past six summers, L.I.F.E., the Beach School PTO, the Ferndale School District and the Lummi Island community have worked in partnership and created a wonderful performing arts opportunity for children grades K-12th.
LIFE’s 7th Annual Lummi Island Summer Theater Camp will run July 8th - 21st, 2019. This year's cast will perform Crazy For You Jr. Based on the book by comedic playwright Ken Ludwig and music by George Gershwin, Crazy For You tells the story of a New York banker and musical enthusiast Bobby Child who finds himself in the sleepy town of Deadrock, Nevada. With the help of the local postmistress, Polly Baker, Bobby sets out to save the town's old, decaying theater. But as is to be expected with such a task, chaos ensues...
Last summer our 6th Annual Summer Theater Camp was a smashing success, engaging fifty-seven participants from all over the United States and Canada in the magic of musical theater as they built two productions: Stephen Sondheim's "Into the Woods, Jr." and Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick and Joseph Stein's "Fiddler on the Roof, Jr."
Our staff included Music Director Jason Parker, and Directors Mark Kuntz and Selene Nelson. Alyssa Daschbach returned as Dance Captain, Hadassah McGill and Kristi Anderson joined us as pianists and Erna Gregory returned as Managing Camp Director.
Lummi Island Summer Theater Camp is supported by our community with over twenty volunteers and strong support from the Ferndale School District.
From the get-go, Lummi Island Summer Theater Camp has been a huge success! For our first production, of "Annie" 24 campers join us, next we chose Rodgers and Hammerstein's "South Pacific". For the summer of 2015 we performed Strouse, Adams and Stewart's "Bye Bye Birdie" for which we had 46 campers enrolled. In 2016 it was Gilbert and Sullivan's "Pirates of Penzance" followed by Meredith Wilson's "Music Man". Each summer our camp continues to grow as campers return to Lummi Island and new campers of all ages join us for the first time.
Every summer our campers learn about acting, staging and voice and explore solo as well as ensemble singing and movement with professionals that have worked all over the country.
